What I learned from Bob Kauflin on Ted Haggard

“Sin is momentary atheism.”

– Bob Kauflin –

I followed a link from my SBTS buddy, Jeremy Haywood, to Bob Kauflin’s blog about Ted Haggard. Now tons of people have blogged about this incident of a high profile pastor in US getting involved in a huge scandal. Honestly, it scared the bejeebees out of me… As a (hopefully) future ministry worker… You see how real sin is, the fall of man (even now), ESPECIALLY to those guiding and shepherding out steps.

Love & Basketball

Ok, this post has nothing to do with “Love”, hehe, but it’s mostly all about ball ๐Ÿ˜‰

Some of you know that my life incorporates a healthy dose of basketball. As of late, I have not been able to get my “fix” of it :p

I know some people look for those “quiet” places, for those “sanctuaries” to meditate, regenerate, etc.

Basketball is my time to shut it all out, stop the thoughts from ruling my life and literally “take it easy”.

Maybe this sounds weird because it does require so much physical working, but I have to say, after tonight playing ball at SCBC with some good buddies, I am reminded how much this unlikely sport gives me so much solace and time away (if only for a while). Monday, which is becoming sort of my new sabbath (because of the work I do on sunday), I’m glad I can just dedicate this day to the Lord WHILE playing some basketball and “resting” in His presence…

I hope you all learn more and more what your “sanctuary” is ๐Ÿ˜€ for everybody, come and join me to play ball!…

Now… onto schoolwork… ugh…

Shane & Shane

If it had not been for these guys, I don’t think I would’ve practiced my guitar so much in my formative years of guitar playing a decade ago. I thank God for the music of Shane & Shane that have been a catalyst to my improvement as a guitar player (even tho they don’t even know what they’re playing musical theory wise, haha) and for their constant spurring to know the true sovereign God and the lover of our souls, Jesus Christ. I was blessed to see them in concert in Lexington, KY with my SBTS floormate Jeremy and I will ne’er forget it ๐Ÿ˜‰ Especially getting hooked up by a Mr. Todd Cromwell (their bassist whom I met from the WorshipTogether Conference when he was the bassist with Charlie Hall Band) to the backstage and talking a bit with Shane E ๐Ÿ˜€

Mohler… molamolamola!

ย ย mohler.jpg

For some of you who didn’t know, I spent last year in Louisville Kentucky at Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, and the president there who has been reforming for the couple of years has been R. Albert Mohler.ย  As an overt Reformed Evangelical and uber conservative, I grew from knowing very little about him to realizing his passion to proclaim Christ in the Bible as the Savior and Lord of our lives, and for that I am truly grateful.ย  While I am no longer at SBTS, I will miss his sermons which were always so full of truth and boldness of the Gospel and he also modeled the Love of God through Grace and prayer for others really well at the same time.

Honestly, I didn’t take well the sometimes “agressive” conservative resurgence that was happening at SBTS, but I learnt so much there and I still appreciated all that they taught me in keeping true to the word of God and to keep learning from the Christian forefathers of the past.

Anyways, I wrote thisย  blog because I still get Mohler’s blogs through my SBTS email account (which is still active, haha) and he blogged about the subject of Homosexuality in an interview with a guy named Andrew Sullivan (some of you may know, most will not, hehe).ย  I know the blog is LONG but seriously, if anything read the end of it.ย  I thought at the end of his blog, he really showed the Christ-loving compassion towards someone who is openly homosexual, and while definitely not relenting from his stance, he showed the humility and love that I think many people who call themselves “conservatives” should have for the people on earth.

Here’s the link:ย  Gay Culture and the Riddle of Andrew Sullivan

I pray that God’s people would have love and compassion for ALL people on the earth, sharing the gospel message not just through their words but in their actions and deeds.
