Tim Keller’s a pastor and theologian that I really respect and resonate with, not just because of his communication skills, but also for his biblical insights and passion to engage people in their culture and thoughts and whatnot in New York city where he’s become sort of a Leading Church Planter and teacher/guru in the area.
Just recently I was doing a round of blog browsing to numerous blogs I visit and as always, Steve McCoy’s blog directed me to the PDF Gem that is a link to Tim Keller’s notes on Deconstructing Defeater beliefs. Its not an easy read, but the basics… as much as I can put it is that Keller brings up that each culture group has their own sort of “defeater” beliefs that causes them to doubt intellectually. Some of them include:
1) Evil and Suffering
2) Religious Pluralism
3) Biblicla Criticism
4) Evolution and Science
He engages them waaaaaaay better (in my opinion) than most people who just bring out more “old-school apologetic” answers and leave it at that. I know this pdf file isn’t just chock-full of biblical references, but the contextualization that I can see him make are so clearly biblically backed up. If this can help anybody in any way, I’m just glad I was able to post it up! It’s helped me sort out some things I needed to put into words. We can learn so much from those ahead of us =D
…also!
DJ Chuang also has reported that Keller might be putting out a book soon based on his sermon/lecture on the topic. Check it out here with some comments from other bloggers.
Shalom!
